The Book on Santa Barbara Wine Country
Santa Barbara County has blossomed into a major wine region complete with fancy tasting rooms and festivals. The story of this growth is told in “Aged in Oak,” a handsomely illustrated book published by the Santa Barbara County Vintners Assn. The book includes wine touring tips, maps and photographs of vineyards and winemakers along with a history of Santa Barbara winemaking dating to mission vineyards. The list of 37 wineries in the book is already out of date: The number now is 42, with two more on the horizon.
Researched and written by faculty and students in UC Santa Barbara’s graduate program in public historical studies, the book is on sale in winery tasting rooms or can be ordered by mail from the vintners association.
The price is $21.40, which includes state tax and shipping. Make checks out to SBCVA and send to SBCVA, P.O. Box 1558, Santa Ynez, CA 93460.
