McDonald’s Decides Against Local Site

Although area residents were told two months ago that McDonald’s had shown interest in building a restaurant at Coldwater Canyon Boulevard and Moorpark Avenue, a company representative said the fast-food chain has no plans to build in the neighborhood.

“We don’t have any plans to build in Studio City,” Sandy Ayers, a McDonald’s real estate representative, said Tuesday. “We looked, that’s what our business is. I have looked at maybe 20 places in the San Fernando Valley.”

McDonald’s officials had contacted City Councilman Mike Feuer’s office to say they were looking at the site, which is now home to an Arco gas station, said Sharon Mayer, Feuer’s chief field deputy. “Two months ago they said they were studying the possibility and I haven’t heard from them since.”

At the May meeting of the Studio City Residents Assn. the proposal of a new McDonald’s was met with hostility, said association President Tony Lucente.

“We received an overwhelming response against this,” Lucente said. “While we didn’t have an official position against it, we certainly didn’t find any community support for it.”

Ayers said there is no reason for association members to become alarmed since there will not be a new McDonald’s in Studio City any time soon.

“If we do seriously look at a location, then we contact the homeowners’ association,” Ayers said. “We do that first so we don’t waste a lot of money.”
