* San Jose-based Cadence Design Systems Inc. said it asked a federal judge to extend a preliminary injunction against Avant Corp. to include other products, citing new evidence in its copyright lawsuit. Cadence, which makes software to speed the design of semiconductors, also asked the U.S. District Court to lift a stay in the proceedings pending the outcome of a criminal case against Avant executives. Cadence already has an injunction against its rival to stop producing ArcCell, which Cadence claims Avant produced from stolen computer code. Cadence now wants the injunction to be extended to Avant’s newer software, Aquarius, based on independent analysis of the product’s code. Avant refuted Cadence’s claims, calling them “baseless charges.”
