A memorial service for Anaheim firefighter Robert “Bobby” Cournoyer, who died this week after a three-year battle with leukemia, will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Crystal Cathedral.

The Anaheim Firefighters’ Assn. is hosting a reception following the service at the Phoenix Club, 1340 Sanderson Ave. The cathedral is at 12141 Lewis St. in Garden Grove.

Cournoyer, 35, died from complications of a bone-marrow transplant he recently underwent at the City of Hope in Duarte.

In 1989, he started his career with the Anaheim Fire Department and a year later became a city firefighter. His co-workers in April shaved their heads in a show of solidarity after his bone-marrow transplant.

He is survived by his wife, Erin, 34, of Laguna Niguel; his mother, Emiko Cournoyer of Lake Elsinore; father, Aldor Cournoyer of Grand Junction Colo.; sisters, Terry Tripodi of Garden Grove, Julie Owens of Whittier and Janet Liebl of Torrance.

Cournoyer’s family requests that donations be made to a trust fund in his name to benefit the Orange County chapter of the Leukemia Society. Donations can be mailed to the Anaheim Area Credit Union, P.O. Box 4620P, Anaheim, CA 92803.
