Driver Laws

Re “Tough to Be Cool With New Driving Rules,” July 5.

A pang of sympathy for the teenage drivers who face tough licensing restrictions that prevent them from having “fun” while looking “cool” in their cars? Surely the author jests!

She does not acknowledge that driving is a privilege and a major responsibility, not a source of recreation or showmanship.

The new teenage driver laws were implemented to require more adult supervision while accident-prone teenagers gain the experience needed to become competent drivers. The author is revealing her own permissive attitude toward driving and parental responsibility as well as her displeasure at having to accompany her own youthful driver and friends.

It is time for the author to grow up and behave like a responsible adult!
