Air Sales Now Legal to Lebanon

U.S. travel agents can now legally sell plane tickets to U.S. citizens going to Lebanon, after the Department of Transportation last month lifted a 1985 ban. However, U.S. airlines are still not allowed to offer direct flights to Beirut. A year ago, the U.S. State Department lifted its ban on U.S. citizens traveling to the Middle Eastern nation, but the DOT restriction had remained in effect. The State Department continues to warn that “only those Americans with compelling reasons consider traveling to Lebanon,” noting that last month, the U.S. Embassy there was the “apparent target” of a grenade attack.
