Budget Surplus

I just read George Skelton’s July 6 column regarding the tax cut proposed by Gov. Pete Wilson. I disagree with the governor’s idea. Cars are not a necessity! I’m reasonably certain that the majority of very elderly voters do not have cars. I’m referring to those of us in our 80s and 90s. Most of us can’t afford them, or we can’t pass the eye test to get a driver’s license. Yet we all pay sales taxes on everything we need. Furthermore, we have been paying taxes for 40 or 50 years. Give us a break, governor!

Also, I found Wilson’s language quite offensive. It demonstrates his disdain for our other elected state officials. How can we respect such a man?
