Training Offered for Disaster Preparedness

Share

The city is seeking volunteers interested in participating in a new disaster training program.

Through the Community Emergency Response Teams program, known as CERT, neighborhood groups will be trained to respond to a major disaster.

The goal of the program is to establish response teams in every neighborhood in the city. Team members will be provided with emergency vests and badges to identify their involvement in the program.

The teams will complement the emergency response efforts by the city, Orange County Fire Authority, American Red Cross and other organizations that may assist Placentia during and after a disaster.

Applicants must be at least 18 and participate in a series of training courses held Saturdays, from August through April.

The first course on first aid is Aug. 8. Training includes search and rescue, post-disaster counseling and cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

Information and training program schedule: Nilda Berndt, police community services officer, (714) 993-8225, or John Fraser, administrative coordinator, (714) 993-8117.
