Inspectors, School Officials to Discuss Rodent Problem

Centinela Valley Union High School District officials are scheduled to meet with county health inspectors today to verify whether rodent and vermin problems at Leuzinger High School have been corrected.

The district was given until 10 a.m. to correct sanitation problems discovered by county health inspectors after a parent’s complaint led to an inspection in early July. Authorities found roaches and rat droppings in locker rooms, along with a dead rat in a boiler room and mosquitoes and green algae in the pool.

Health officials said the vermin and rodent problems were probably caused by garbage strewn around the gym complex, openings in several pipes, broken foundation screens and trash cans that were not tightly fitted with covers.

School district officials said that the school would have undergone intensive cleaning before the school opened for classes in the fall.
