Suspects in Global Drug Ring Arrested
Police here and in three other countries have arrested 14 suspects in an international drug trafficking ring, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police said. Most were arrested in Montreal and Toronto. The others were arrested in the U.S., Mexico and Italy. RCMP Inspector Ben Soave said the target of the investigation was a crime family, led by 52-year-old Alfonso Caruana, that runs one of the world’s largest drug-smuggling and money-laundering organizations. Police said the probe lasted two years and led to the seizure of 440 pounds of cocaine. The suspects will be charged with drug trafficking and conspiracy.
