Sweet on ‘Cider’

I was saddened to read Laurie Winer’s unsupportive review of “Cider House Rules” (“Flat Cider,” July 13, 1998). This production is theater at its most socially conscientious and creative best. How can anyone familiar with theater not support this entertaining and educating piece of work? Ms. Winer’s mention of the lecture on use of condoms is perhaps fair reporting, in that it is not the most entertaining part of the six-hour marathon production. However, there are another five hours and 50 minutes of innovative and fascinating theater. The CTG deserves praise for bringing “Cider House” to Los Angeles, and this effort deserves support from every part of the community, including the hometown paper.
