China
Wyman Wun’s assertion that “China is changing to a more democratic society” (letter, July 15) is more a fantasy than a reality. President Clinton’s televised exchange with Jiang Zemin on the subject of the June 4 massacre was not reported in China’s print media; neither were his remarks on human rights made at the Beijing University reported in China’s printed press.
The rounding up of dissidents before and during Clinton’s stay in China has shown that the Chinese government has no desire to change in terms of allowing its people basic human rights.
