A Westminster woman was sentenced this week to two years in prison for stealing money from the Newport Beach doctor who employed her and for tax evasion, state officials reported.

Judy K. Kuckowicz, 49, pleaded guilty in March to diverting funds from her employer into her personal bank account. She was convicted of grand theft and income tax evasion.

According to the state Franchise Tax Board, Kuckowicz failed to report $54,000 in stolen funds, as well as her regular wages, on her 1994 state income tax returns.

Orange County Municipal Judge Margaret Anderson also ordered her to pay $11,000 to the state tax collector.

The case resulted from a joint investigation by the Orange County district attorney’s office, the Newport Beach Police Department and the Franchise Tax Board.
