Fidelity National Posts Record Results for Quarter, Half

Fidelity National Financial Inc., an Irvine title insurance and real-estate services company, reported record results for the second quarter and first half.

Net income for the second quarter tripled, to $30.6 million, or $1.08 a share, from $10.6 million, or 45 cents a share, in the 1997 second quarter. Revenue increased 59% to $289.1 million from $182.3 million. Net income for the first six months rose to $46.7 million, or $1.66 a share, from $15 million, or 63 cents a share, for the like period last year.

Revenue advanced 56%, to $525.7 million from $338 million. Included in the 1998 second-quarter and six-month results is a gain of $5.6 million related to the conversion of Fidelity’s interest in Data Tree Corp. into First American Financial Corp. common stock. Fidelity’s investment was $3 million.
