On Friday evening, use the thin crescent moon to spot the elusive planet Mercury. Mercury will be 6 degrees to the upper left of the moon, and both will be low in the west (drawing is not to scale). The best time to look is about 8:20 p.m. The star directly above Mercury is Regulus, the brightest star in Leo the Lion.
