Applicants Sought for New Library Board
If you’ve read most of the 100 books on the Modern Library’s recent list of the best English-language novels published in the 20th century, the new library in Calabasas is looking for you.
The city needs five people well-versed in literature and library operations for its newly formed Library Commission.
They will serve on the new panel that will advise the City Council about library services. The unpaid posts are open only to Calabasas residents, said City Clerk Robin Parker.
Commissioners will be selected by the council in August, Parker said, and the length of each commissioner’s term will be determined by lot. One person will be given an initial term of one year, two will be appointed to two-year posts and two will be given three-year terms. All terms will expire March 31 of the appropriate year, Parker said.
“The council has been very communicative and supportive, and I’m just thrilled,” said City Librarian Field G. Weber. “I’m glad they want to put something formal in the works to maintain that relationship.”
Weber said the new commission will probably be involved in planning for a larger library that the city hopes to build in two or three years.

The deadline for submitting applications is 5 p.m. Aug. 10.
