Free Day of Tennis Available to Youths

Share

The Recreation and Community Services Department will host another “Free Tennis Day” Saturday for children ages 5 to 17.

The Neighborhood Junior Tennis Program, composed of volunteer instructors from in and around San Fernando, will help expose novices to the game and offer advice on how children with experience can improve their footwork and forehand and backhand shots, among other things.

“It’s a chance for kids to go out and play,” said John McGrory, interim recreation coordinator for the city.

The city hosts such a clinic about every six months, McGrory said.

Through the free event, the Neighborhood Junior Tennis Program--a nonprofit organization that aims to encourage children to become responsible and productive adults--recruits players for its regular tennis lessons, which cost $25 a month.

The free tennis clinic will run from 10 a.m. to noon at Las Palmas Park, 505 S. Huntington St.

Players who do not have tennis rackets can use equipment provided by instructors.
