SPECIAL TO THE TIMES

Kollstar Golf Co. in Newport Beach said Thursday it purchased seven golf courses on the southwest coast of Florida from National Fairways LP, a deal that more than doubles the size of its golf operations.

Kollstar owns two golf courses at Houston Oaks Golf Club in Houston and manages three others: MetroWest Country Club in Orlando, Florida; the Ocean Course at Cabo del Sol, a golf resort community in Los Cabos, Mexico; and Palmilla Golf Club, also in Los Cabos.

The new courses are within a 150-mile radius. Each is a semi-private club with an 18-hole course, clubhouse, pro shop and restaurant or snack bar.

“This acquisition meets our goal of establishing clusters of golf courses in high-end areas that have excellent weather, are well-known for their golf and are supported by both the high tourist volume and the local market,” Chief Executive Joseph Woodard said in a statement.

Financial terms weren’t disclosed. The company is looking to further its expansion, targeting such areas as San Diego, Palm Springs and Scottsdale, Ariz.

In the deal announced Thursday, Kollstar acquired the Hibiscus Golf Club in Naples; Port Charlotte Golf Club in Charlotte; the Tides Golf Club in Seminole; Eagle Ridge Golf Club in Fort Myers and Sunrise Golf Club, Rolling Green Golf Club and Sarasota Golf Club, all in Sarasota.

Kollstar is a joint venture between Koll Resorts International, one of the Koll real estate companies that specializes in golf resorts, and NorthStar Capital Investment Corp.
