A six-hour standoff between sheriff’s deputies and a barricaded spousal abuse suspect ended early Thursday when a sheriff’s SWAT team entered the suspect’s apartment and found him sitting on a sofa next to his three sleeping children, authorities said.

Juan Juarez, 30, was arrested about 4:30 a.m., and was booked for spousal abuse and child endangerment, authorities said.

Deputies arrived at Juarez’s apartment in the 4200 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. about 10:20 p.m. Wednesday after receiving a family disturbance call, Deputy Michael Irving said.

When they met with the husband and wife in front of the apartment, Juarez became angry, struck his wife and ran inside, Irving said. Deputies called for backup, believing that Juarez had weapons inside, he said.

During the standoff, Juarez refused to let out his three children, aged 3, 4 and 6, Irving said.
