Riverside Philharmonic Plans Six-Event Season for 1998-99
For its six-event, 1998-99 season, the Riverside County Philharmonic, under Music Director Patrick Flynn, will play four concerts, host another by a neighboring orchestra and present a solo recital by the distinguished American violinist Joseph Silverstein.
The season begins Sept. 26, when the Riverside Philharmonic, with Flynn conducting, offers Dvorak’s “New World” Symphony and, with Wendy Chen as soloist, Rachmaninoff’s Third Piano Concerto. This concert takes place in Municipal Auditorium, 3485 Mission Inn Ave., Riverside, at 8 p.m.
Flynn conducts an orchestral showcase on Nov. 14, with music by Tchaikovsky, Haydn, Martin and Mozart; soloist is cellist Jeffry Kaatz.
Silverstein’s recital is scheduled Jan. 23, also in Municipal Auditorium at 8 p.m., and will offer works by Bach, Beethoven, Heifetz, Kreisler and Milstein.
“Romeo and Juliet” is the theme of the orchestra’s Feb. 13 concert, presenting works by Tchaikovsky, Berlioz, Prokofiev and Leonard Bernstein.
The Riverside ensemble hosts the San Bernardino Symphony, conducted by Stewart Robertson, on March 13. Soloist on that program is the prizewinning pianist Yakov Kasman.
The Riverside County Philharmonic closes its season May 9, when Flynn conducts a Beethoven program featuring pianist Rudolfas Budginas in the Choral Fantasy, and ending with the Ninth Symphony. This concert begins at 3 p.m.
