From Times Staff Reports

The Rev. Jesse Jackson, being treated for bronchial asthma in Chicago, was in good spirits and improving. “He has responded very well to treatment, and we should be able to discharge him soon,” said Dr. Elsie Walker, an internist at Doctors Hospital. Walker said she could not say specifically when the civil rights leader and former presidential candidate would be released. Jackson came to the hospital Saturday night coughing, wheezing and experiencing shortness of breath after a rally.
