Advanced Micro Devices Inc. said it expects to be profitable in the fourth quarter, boosted by strong sales of its flagship K6 processor, which competes with Intel Corp.’s Pentium line. During a speech at the BancAmerica Robertson Stephens semiconductor conference in San Francisco, Chairman Jerry Sanders said that “AMD will show substantial growth in revenue and units shipped in 1998.” He told reporters earlier that AMD will turn a profit in the fourth quarter.
