Applications Open for Training Course

The Simi Valley Police Department is accepting applications for its next Community Emergency Response Team training course.

The first five three-hour classes will be held at the Police Department at 3200 Cochran St. on Wednesdays, beginning Sept. 9 and continuing to Oct. 7, from 7 to 10 p.m.

The final class, on Saturday, Oct. 17, will be at the Ventura County Regional Fire Training Center near Los Posas and Pleasant Valley roads in Camarillo from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The course is limited to 25 students--participants must be 18 or older--and will include training in disaster awareness and preparedness, team management, disaster psychology, fire suppression, medical operations and search and rescue.

All applications must be received by Aug. 20.

All training is provided by Ventura County Fire Protection District firefighters.

The response team program was started after the 1994 Northridge earthquake to help Simi Valley residents be better prepared in the event of a disaster.
