Bolton, Wynter Win Triathlon

Ryan Bolton of Boulder, Colo., and Iona Wynter of Jamaica took top honors Sunday at the 21st Newport Beach Triathlon in Newport Beach.

Bolton, a first-time entrant, finished in 56 minutes 1 second to win the men’s open competition. Wynter finished in 1:05.29 to win the women’s open division.

The race, which started at Newport Dunes, passed through the Back Bay and parts of Irvine. It comprised a half-mile swim, a 13-mile bike ride and a three-mile run.

John Brazelton of Aliso Viejo was second in 1:00.10 and Jose Branco of La Jolla was third (1:07.45).

Angela Van Dyke of Carlsbad was second in the women’s field, finishing in 1:09.36. Jennifer Lee of La Jolla was third in 1:11.50.
