Dairy I

Ever think about what kind of cheese your boss reminds you of? Apparently, the good folks at the American Diary Assn. have. It turns out "sharp cheddar" is the No. 1 response according to an ADA survey. However, Northeasterners said their bosses were like "Herman Muenster" cheese, while Westerners chose "Pungent Limburger." It's almost summer, and everywhere you go people are stuffing their faces with ice cream. And after the pleasure often comes the pain: the ice cream headache, an intense, sharp pain occasionally experienced after the first few bites of ice cream. It's easily preventable, according to an article in the July issue of Muscle & Fitness magazine. Neurologists believe the pain is caused by the constriction of blood vessels in the head brought on by the sudden cold. They recommend eating the first few bites slowly and trying to keep the cold stuff away from the back of the roof of the mouth.

Let the celebrations begin--it's National Dairy Month. Joining the milk party hysteria are eight NBA players who appear on special trading cards wearing milk mustaches. (The limited-edition card sheet is available in the June issue of Sports Illustrated for Kids.) Oddly, none of the eight featured players, who include the Lakers' Eddie Jones and the Pacers' Reggie Miller, made it to the NBA finals. Safety Check

It's not clear whether the nation can withstand the extra hoopla, but this week is also National Home Safety Week. There are no planned festivities, so it's up to you to mark the week in the manner you see fit. One way, suggested the Lowe's Home Safety Council of Wilkesboro, N.C., is to make your home safer. Some key ways are to store cleaning agents, chemicals, etc., in locked cabinets; create and practice a fire evacuation plan; install carbon monoxide detectors; and equip tubs and showers with grab bars. Get busy.
