Orange Coast Honors 2 Students of the Year

Although they come from different backgrounds, Aimee D. Morgan and Dung Khac Do have one thing in common: They are Orange Coast College’s Students of the Year.

Morgan, 19, of Garden Grove and Do, 36, of Costa Mesa were honored this month by the Costa Mesa Chamber of Commerce, which gives the award for outstanding scholarship and leadership.

Morgan is an art history major with a 3.8 grade-point average and was named this spring to the All-California College Academic Team. She was one of 57 team members from 107 community colleges. She also has served on the Associated Students’ Inter-Club Council, co-chaired the finance committee and was a founding member of a campus service committee called REACH (Responsible, Educated and Aware Community Helpers). She will transfer to UCLA in the fall as an art history major.

Do is a political science major with a 3.6 grade-point average. Born in Vietnam, he dropped out of school as a teenager and was drafted into the Vietnamese army in the Vietnamese-Cambodian war. In 1983, he came to the United States and earned his diploma at Davis Adult School in Costa Mesa. He enrolled at Orange Coast College in 1994 and will transfer to UC Berkeley to study political science. He plans to become a professor.
