Police to Benefit From Computer Grant
A $1.8-million federal grant will allow the Police Department to buy 150 state-of-the-art laptop computers for patrol officers.
The machines will feature customized software, including a reference material browser listing the penal code and posters of wanted suspects.
The computers will be shock and splash resistant, and can be used in patrol cars, said Sgt. Steve Despenas.
“The purpose of the grant is to use technology to enable police officers to spend more time in the field, and therefore give the citizens of Santa Ana a more responsive level of service,” Despenas said.
