Tulare Mayor Claude Retherford, a former Fullerton College basketball coach, died in his sleep Wednesday. He was 72. A native of French Lick, Ind., Retherford played basketball at Indiana University. After serving in the Navy, he enrolled at Nebraska, where he was named the Big 7 most valuable player in 1949 while leading the Cornhuskers to a conference title. He coached four seasons at Fullerton starting at 1961. . .
