Are Trojans Paranoid, or Do We Hate Them?

I agree with Bill Plaschke [June 10] that USC should spend more time publicizing the positive things that have happened with the athletic department. The Times won’t.

The Times has been wandering the halls of the USC athletic department with a can of kerosene and a lighted match for months. What sophistry to voice surprise that administrators are a little paranoid. The only thing more disingenuous are these self-same pyromaniacs exclaiming “fire,” then feigning surprise at the blaze they create.

Roses are red,

Violets are pink,

“USC’s tutorial program must get a pass,” the Pac-10 said.

What’s an honest and ethical person to think?

The lack of oversight by those folks is enough to make one stand up and holler,

But what do you expect when the bottom line is the almighty dollar?

Maybe [USC] President [Steven] Sample and [Athletic Director] Mike Garrett can get together and really make some fun times for the L.A. sports fans. With the latest Pac-10 wrist slap and the letter to the USC boosters, they seem to have the services of a whole team of comedy writers. Perhaps they can get some to write papers for their student-athletes.
