Pedestrian Killed in Crash; Teen Arrested

California Highway Patrol officers say they are investigating a weekend traffic fatality in which a Santa Paula pedestrian believed to be drunk was struck and killed by a woman driver who also had been drinking.
Ricardo Barron, 25, was walking in the eastbound lane of Telegraph Road near Todd Road, west of Santa Paula, about 9:30 p.m. Sunday, CHP spokesman Dave Cockrill said.
Barron was hit by a Nissan Sentra apparently going faster than the posted 50-mph speed limit, Cockrill said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver, Denise M. Basua was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated and is also suspected of being under the influence of drugs, Cockrill said. Basua, 19, also of Santa Paula, is to be arraigned July 15.
Because both the victim and driver were intoxicated, investigators are having difficulty determining how the accident occurred, Cockrill said.
