Shooting Death

* Re “Restaurateur Fatally Shot Inside Home,” June 15.

As if the murder of a young father and Ventura business owner were not tragic enough, now we are offered an appalling glimpse into modern suburbia--a place where the value of a man’s home is apparently the measure of his soul.

Jim Nelson’s neighbor, Felipe Arambula, was shot to death in front of his wife and children in his Ondulando home during a robbery on Saturday. Nelson’s comment to the paper: It is a very nice neighborhood but I’d say property values just went down about $10,000.”

Unbelievable.

To the wife and children of Felipe Arambula, our hearts go out to you. Our family will miss his service, thoughtfulness and ready smile at Taqueria Vallarta. May he rest in peace.

To Mr. Nelson, we suggest you open a dictionary and look up the word “benevolence.” Your hillside home may be upscale but your greed is getting the best of you.
