Respiratory Ailment Hospitalizes Wallace

Former Alabama Gov. George C. Wallace was hospitalized with a respiratory infection, a hospital spokeswoman said. Wallace, 78, a four-time presidential candidate who was shot and seriously wounded while campaigning in 1972, was admitted to Jackson Hospital after he had trouble breathing, his son, George Jr., said in a statement in Montgomery. Wallace, paralyzed from the waist down and confined to a wheelchair since the assassination attempt in Maryland, also suffers from Parkinson’s disease and arthritis.
