W.R. Nelson Elementary School teachers Jeanne Bentley and Betty Rutter have been named winners of a $5,000 New Era Award for Excellence education grant from Edison International.

The teachers won the grant for their project, “A Better Way of Learning,” an early intervention program in language arts and mathematics for at-risk students.

Bentley, a third-grade teacher, and Rutter, a resource specialist program teacher, said they will use the money to buy computers and software for their classrooms.
