Vanity Flair

Your bath can have a classic look with affordable, ready-to-assemble furniture from Design House Inc.

The Homestead series is the latest addition to Design House’s traditional line of vanities. The vanities, which can be assembled in about 20 to 30 minutes by do-it-yourselfers, have an antique maple and hunter green finish that gives them an old yet rich look.

The vanity (small, about $270; large, about $500) and other pieces in the collection feature maple doors and frames; maple fronts with plywood veneer sides; optional door pulls; concealed, self-closing hinges and dual drawer glides.

The vanity tops, made of stainless-steel molds, have a cleaner, less porous marbleized top that is nearly indistinguishable from the real thing.

Other pieces include matching linen and bath cabinets that have two or three doors, light bars and one- and two-door medicine cabinets.

An Earful

Corny or not, eating anything on the cob can be messy, especially when you add salt, butter or margarine.

One two-pronged solution is corn holders from Sitlax, one of the top U.S. makers of stainless-steel accessories for the home.

The holders (about $13 for a set of 12) have a sleek look and really grip the cob, so even little fingers won’t drop their corn.

The holders are dishwasher-safe and available at Target stores throughout Orange County.

Grease Buster

Char on the grill. Grease on the stove and refrigerator. Oil on the garage floor. Grime-coated engines. These tough jobs need an industrial-strength, all-purpose cleaner.

Grease Grizzly (about $6 for a 32-ounce spray bottle) can tackle all these tasks without irritating skin, pets or plants. It is a free-rinsing product that can be used on nearly any surface.

Grease Grizzly is nontoxic, nonflammable and contains no hazardous air pollutants. It is available at supermarkets, home centers and hardware stores throughout the county. Call (800) 321-6330 for more information or for the nearest retailer.
