Transportation-Related Taxes

Re “Gov. Wilson’s Proposal to Cut Car Tax,” June 16 letter from Jonathan Sharkey, mayor of Port Hueneme.

This mayor is from a city that wanted to establish a view tax. The state, counties and cities love to take but what they give back to the people is a joke.

Port Hueneme is once again working on its one and only through street. This street has been under construction for the past five years. A 15% tax cut should be great for Hueneme, no more fund allocations for future digs on Venture Road.

California is one of the true leaders in collecting transportation-related tax but near the bottom when it comes to spending on transportation needs. What happens to all the car tax, sales tax, gas tax and used oil and tire tax? Give the taxpayer a break. Not only return our money but clean and fix our roads and, Hueneme, stop milking the cow and hire someone who knows how to dig holes.
