Internet advertising in the first quarter of 1998 totaled $351.3 million, a 271% increase over the first quarter of 1997, according to a report released last week by the Internet Advertising Bureau. That brings the number of consecutive quarters with revenue growth to eight.

Computer and consumer-related advertising combined for 52% of all online ads, followed by telecommunications (14%), financial services (13%) and new media (10%). The report, which includes online advertising revenues from Web sites, online services and e-mail providers, was conducted by Coopers & Lybrand’s new-media group.
