Injured Teacher

Share

Re “Hope in Charter Schools,” editorial, June 17: I fail to understand the Fenton Avenue Charter School principal’s statement concerning change in attitude when you’re in charge. The teacher broke her ankle at work falling down a flight of stairs and doesn’t want to take time off. She says she doesn’t want the school’s workers’ compensation insurance to increase. Why should it increase? It’s for workers’ compensation. Am I to assume that she doesn’t use her auto, homeowners or liability insurance for the same reason?

I understand that she likes the school and the principal thinks this is real loyalty, but their statements sound as if they come out of a different time. Finally, if you do have an injury of this sort the school district doesn’t allow you back until you’re healed. I believe this is part of the workers’ compensation law.
