Five people were injured in a head-on collision Sunday afternoon on a curvy stretch of Santa Susana Pass Road in south Simi Valley, police reported.

A 14-year-old girl was airlifted with major head injuries and four other people with moderate injuries were transported by ambulance to Simi Valley Hospital, according to the Ventura County Fire Department.

The names and conditions of the injured were not available Sunday night.

The crash occurred just before 5 p.m. between Smith and Box Canyon roads, the California Highway Patrol reported. The accident involved a late-model Honda carrying two males and two females, all in their teens or early 20s, and a 1935 convertible Ford driven by a 48-year-old man.

The head-injury victim was riding without a seat belt in the back seat of the Honda, said Ventura County Fire Capt. Kevin Stearns.

“We were doing a weed-abatement program about 150 yards away. We heard the skids and the crash,” Stearns said.

The CHP sent a special team of investigators to the scene to gather evidence for possible prosecution of one of the drivers. No further details were released and officers remained on scene late Sunday evening.

Santa Susana Pass Road was closed for about 30 minutes so emergency vehicles could get in and out, the Fire Department reported. More than a dozen firefighters responded.
