Organizers of the annual Independence Day parade down Foothill Boulevard are seeking entries for the event.

“It’s an old-fashioned small town, typical parade,” said Barbara Hughes, president of the Sunland-Tujunga Chamber of Commerce. “Anybody who wants to can get in the parade, carry a flag, drive a car. There is no professionalism to it at all. It’s great.”

The procession starts at 10 a.m. at Mt. Gleason Avenue and Foothill and runs west along the boulevard to Sunland Park.

Ken Osmond, who played Eddie Haskell on the TV series “Leave It To Beaver,” will be the parade grand marshal, Hughes said.

Public festivities starting at about noon and lasting into the evening will be held in the park. Food will be available and entertainment provided, Hughes said.

At 1 p.m., the chamber will announce its new honorary sheriff.

The honorary sheriff is not a law enforcement official, but represents the chamber for two years at such functions as ribbon-cutting ceremonies, Hughes said.

Those who participated in fund-raising activities are eligible for the honor, with the top fund-raiser winning the post.
