Man Pleads Guilty in Molestation Case
A 55-year-old Moorpark man has pleaded guilty to three felony counts of committing a lewd act on a child stemming from the molestation of an 11-year-old girl.
David Whittington entered the pleas Wednesday at the start of his preliminary hearing before Municipal Judge Bruce Clark, the district attorney’s office said Thursday.
In exchange for his plea, prosecutors dismissed two felony counts involving the same crime.
Sentencing was scheduled for July 29.
Whittington, a retired Oregon postal worker and one-time elementary school maintenance worker, was arrested May 6 after sheriff’s deputies learned the young girl had been fondled over her clothing earlier this year, authorities said.
Whittington has no prior record of similar crimes, deputies said. Whittington remained jailed Thursday night in lieu of $20,000 bail.
