* Call-Net Enterprises Inc., the Canadian affiliate of Sprint Corp., said Fonorola Inc. of Montreal accepted its sweetened takeover offer of $1.34 billion in cash, stock and assumed debt, ending a two-month-long effort to buy the rival long-distance carrier.

* Monsanto Co. is selling its unit that makes Ortho and White Swan home lawn-and-garden products to Scotts Co., which sells Micro-Gro fertilizer, for about $300 million. Under the deal, Monsanto will continue to make its Roundup herbicide, but Scotts will market it.

* Scientific-Atlanta Inc. will eliminate 125 jobs at its Atlanta headquarters and take $60 million to $75 million in charges this quarter as a result. The maker of cable-television and telecommunications equipment will move some production to Mexico from Atlanta and transfer other production lines to Atlanta from Canada.

* C-Cor Electronics Inc., a maker of electronic equipment for communications networks, said it closed its Reedsville, Pa., plant and cut 145 jobs, or 12% of its work force, to reduce costs. The company said it is taking a charge of $670,000 in its fiscal fourth quarter as a result of the moves.

* Remington Products Co., maker of electric razors, will close a plant in Connecticut, cutting 235 jobs, or about 20% of its work force. The closely held company will move some distribution operations to Southern California.

* NationsBanc Montgomery Securities, the securities unit of NationsBank, will name Lewis Coleman as chief operating officer as soon as next week, people familiar with the matter said. A spokeswoman for San Francisco-based Montgomery declined to comment.
