Another View on Minor Drivers

* Re “Driving Force,” June 18:
As a registered nurse who works in a trauma unit in Orange County, I am outraged by the last mother quoted (she did not want to be identified). She felt the law on minor drivers is an inconvenience to her as a parent. The law is meant to keep children safe and alive.
If she visited any of the trauma centers or rehabilitation centers and just spent a couple of hours with those of us who try to put young lives back together, she would probably not allow her child to drive at such a young age. Having her child spend a year in hospitals and still have permanent brain injuries would be more than an inconvenience to her working life.
Her child’s activities should be a priority, not an inconvenience. I hope this law will decrease the number of young people we see in our trauma units.
