A 2-year-old boy wandered away from his grandparents and drowned Saturday in a backyard pool in Mission Hills, failing to respond to cardiopulmonary resuscitation attempts by his grandfather and paramedics, authorities said.
The boy, visiting from San Jose, had been missing five to 10 minutes before he was discovered in the pool in the 10500 block of Haskell Avenue about 6:55 p.m., said Bob Collis, a Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman.
Dispatchers who handled the emergency call instructed the grandfather in CPR, which he performed until paramedics arrived and took over, Collis said. The boy was pronounced dead at Providence Holy Cross Medical Center. His and his grandparents’ names were not released.
