The Hazards of Lead
The June 7 “Painting Primer” article covered every aspect of painting your home except the issue of lead-based paint as it applies to the federal requirements for residences built prior to 1978.
The article would have been an ideal opportunity to make readers aware of the health hazards if an individual or a painting contractor disturbs lead-based paint when remodeling.
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency publishes two free booklets--in English and Spanish--that your readers might find educational.
They are “Reducing Lead Hazards When Remodeling Your Home” and “Protect Your Family From Lead in Your Home.” To order the booklets, call (800) 424-LEAD.
