Gay Fest Organizers Look to ’99 Event
Organizers of last month’s Lesbian and Gay Pride Festival in Simi Valley are calling the event a success and are already at work planning another event next year.
About 3,500 attended the event, according to statistics compiled through a written questionnaire distributed at the gate, Waters said.
Excluding volunteers and children, 2,777 people paid to attend the event, Waters said. Of those, 20% were Simi Valley residents and almost half were from the eastern half of Ventura County.
About 76% identified themselves as gay on the questionnaire, he said. Another 20% identified themselves as heterosexual.
“I think that 20% number is really important,” Waters said. “That number showed this wasn’t just a gay event; it was a community event.”
