School officials said Monday that a weekend fire of suspicious origin caused about $300,000 damage to Collegewood Elementary School.

The Saturday night blaze gutted at least one classroom and left several others with smoke and water damage, said district spokesman Mike Bower. No one was injured in the blaze, he said.

Bower said the district has brought in a building contractor to examine the damage with the goal of having the facility ready when school resumes in August.

Books, computers, supplies and the school’s sound equipment were destroyed in the blaze, officials said.

Arson investigators spent Sunday examining the aftermath and have declared the fire suspicious.
