Concordia Routs Biola in Women’s Basketball

Heather Carll scored 16 points and grabbed 14 rebounds and Jamie Gast had 12 points in Concordia’s 75-49 victory over Biola Saturday at Concordia.

The Eagles (22-8, 8-4) held Biola to 16 points in the first half.

Yvette Williams scored 13 points and had 11 rebounds to lead Biola (20-9, 3-9).

In nonconference women’s basketball:

Southern California College 75, The Master’s 60--Southern California College’s Alana Kempton scored 20 points for the Vanguards (27-5). Amee Pina had 11 points and 12 assists for SCC.

In the Golden State Athletic Conference men’s basketball:

Biola 63, Concordia 57--Joey Busch scored 16 points and grabbed nine rebounds and Josh Giles had 17 points for Concordia (13-18, 4-10).

Westmont 67, Southern California College 66--Westmont scored the winning field goal with one second left.

Adam Dzierzynski scored a game-high 22 points and Dennis Keane added 21 for Southern California College (18-14, 7-7), which finished fourth in conference.

In Golden State Athletic Conference baseball:

Southern California College 8, Westmont 3--SCC’s Josh Steele gave up five hits in the complete-game victory. Right fielder Joe Rivera had a home run and five RBIs and first baseman Eric Both had three RBIs for the Vanguards (7-5, 3-2).

In nonconference baseball:

UC San Diego 8, Concordia 6--Concordia (4-7) got home runs from Chad Smith and Derek Patterson in the loss.

In nonconference softball:

Pacific Christian 4-6, Concordia 2-9--Concordia (1-5) used a seven-run fourth inning to propel it to its first win of the season in the second-game of a doubleheader.

Jennifer Moulden had a home run and four RBIs for Pacific Christian (8-2). In the first game, Moulden doubled and had two RBIs and pitched seven innings.

Southern California College 7-3, CS San Bernardino 1-2--Gretchen Brandt worked out of a bases-loaded jam with no outs in the top of the seventh for Southern California College (11-3) in the second game of a doubleheader.

Brandt (4-2) forced two ground outs and struck out another for the third out to secure a 3-2 win for the Vanguards.

In the first game, SCC’s Jen Houston pitched a three-hitter and struck out five for her fifth consecutive victory.

In the Cal State Fullerton Showcase softball tournament:

Cal State Fullerton 11, San Jose State 3--Nikki Hart was three for four with three RBIs and Dara Marzolo was two for four with two RBIs for Cal State Fullerton. Chrissy Hartman (1-1) pitched five innings and struck out one for the Titans (5-4). In another game, Jana Oetgen gave up only one earned run as the Titans (5-5) were shut out, 3-0, by San Diego State (4-10). CS Fullerton was led by Hart’s three hits.

Long Beach State 4, Virginia 0--Traci Hensel struck out seven batters en route to pitching a no-hitter for Long Beach State. Jaime Villones provided the offensive spark for the 49ers going two for three with two runs scored. The 49ers are 10-4.

In Big West Conference men’s tennis:

UC Santa Barbara 6, UC Irvine 1--Nick Varvais and David Chang of UC Irvine defeated Daniel Rheydt and Peter Webb in doubles, 8-5.

At the Carl Rossi track and field relays:

Evans wins--UC Irvine long distance runner Chris Evans took first place in the 3,000 meters in 9 minutes 15.96 seconds. Matt Fischer (9:20.55) of Concordia placed second. In the 100 meters, Ray Lie took third place in 11.04 for the Anteaters.

In the women’s 3,000 meters, Kareen Nilsson won in 10:45.29 and Crystal Smith (11:16.62) was second for the Anteaters. Also, Vivian Yip (UCI) took third place in the pole vault with a height of eight feet.
