Kummerow to Develop Scooter Battery in China
Burbank-based Kummerow Corp. of North America has signed a letter of intent to develop an advanced battery system for electric motor scooters and sell it in Shanghai.
Along with Wangdi Industry (USA) Development of the City of Industry, Kummerow will develop a zinc-air battery for the scooters, company officials said. The technology is based on existing zinc-air technology in use on an electric transit bus in Singapore and delivery vehicles in Karlsruhe, Germany.
The companies hope to start production of the new batteries in Shanghai later this year.
“Only zinc-air battery technology has the potential to provide a sufficiently low cost to power an electric scooter that Shanghai residents can afford,” said company president Hans W. Kummerow.
