Street Sweeping May Be Cut to One a Month
Streets may be swept once--instead of twice--most months to save the community money.
Rossmoor Community Service District officials Wednesday will consider buying a contract that calls for monthly sweeping from February to October. In November, December and January streets will be swept twice a month to gather fallen leaves.
The contract costs $17,200. Last year, the price was $30,000 with twice-monthly sweeps. Rossmoor is looking for ways to reduce spending since officials are using reserves to balance the budget.
But officials said cost-cutting isn’t the only reason to consider a less expensive contract.
“There was kind of a prevailing feeling that lots of months it didn’t require it twice a month,” said James S. Mocalis, director of the district, which governs the unincorporated community.
The meeting begins at 7 p.m. in district headquarters, 3232 Hedwig Road.
