Happy Marriages

I read with interest your Feb. 24 editorial, “Two Words to the Wise: ‘Yes, Dear.’ ” Whatever happened to expressions of honesty in relationships? If marriage partners subsist on the pablum and pacifiers of placation to communicate with one another, then their marriage is a marriage in name only, not in substance.

As far as I can tell the phrase “successful marriages” is an oxymoron. Businesses may be successful but marriages, especially if they are to last, are more often than not, lucky.

* Your editorial reminded me of Ogden Nash’s little ditty: To keep your marriage brimmingWith love in the loving cup, Whenever you’re wrong, admit it; Whenever you’re right, shut up.This little pearl of wisdom has helped my marriage last 10 years.
